While there are many food drives that occur throughout the region during the holiday season, at Granite Falls High School our Food Drive is different. Every dollar and can of food collected stays in our community and supports the families that live and work here. As in years past, our students, staff, and community members are eager to begin changing the lives of the families we help.

For the last eighteen years, the Granite Falls School District has surpassed our goals for both donated food items and money. This year’s goal is to raise over $10,000 and 20,000 food items. In 2017, we provided more than 200 families with food baskets and delivered gifts to more than 500 children in need.

We are asking for your help this year in meeting our goals. Simply put, the goal of this year’s food drive is to give back to our community and we need your assistance! You can show your support with cash, food, or gift donations. Click here for information on how you can help.

Snohomish County is made up of more than 800,000 people — of all ages and walks of life — from those who can easily afford meals for their families to those who struggle to simply make ends meet each month. With more than 60,000 citizens living below the poverty line in the county — along with an increase in population and homelessness, lower wage jobs, medical insurance costs, and families in crisis — the winter months can prove to be difficult for many. In an effort to make the holidays less of a burden for local families, the Granite Falls School District sponsors a community “Food Drive” that allows us to connect with over 200 families, providing food, toys, and other necessities during the month of December.

Granite Falls is unique in our Food Drive.

  • We provide food and gifts to more than 200 local families within the Granite Falls community.
  • 100% of the donations go to the families we serve.
  • Often our students themselves and their families are the recipients.
  • Our volunteers are made up of a very hardworking and dedicated group of high school students known as “coordinators”.
  • Our staff and coordinators actually deliver food and gifts to the families directly.
  • The entire event is very authentic and changes the lives of not only the recipients, but the student coordinators.
  • Last year, we collected over 20,000 items and raised more than $10,000 in cash.

Beginning November 26, 2018, students and staff will be collecting donations of food and money, as well as collecting gifts for our Giving Tree. Our Giving Tree provides holiday gifts to many children in our community. Those who are interested can go to any school office and receive a slip with a child’s name, gender, age, and a list of gift ideas. Student and staff volunteers will be making deliveries to these families themselves, starting December 12 and ending December 13, 2018.

During early December, you may see student volunteers at local grocery stores collecting both food and cash donations. Businesses can also get involved through our corporate sponsorship program. Any amount of generosity and kindness will help lift the burden of the holiday season for struggling families. Despite strong economic prosperity, this is still a time of need for many in our region.
