Class of 2019
Resolution 14/15-03 Waiver of 24 Credit Graduation Requirement
The state passed a new graduation credit requirement in E2SSB 6552 to be in effect for the class of 2019. The Board adopted the above resolution, on February 4, 2015, which will accompany the District’s request for a temporary waiver from the requirements in order to study and plan for the implementation.
The State Board of Education and the Granite Falls School District have adopted policies (see Policy 6190: High School Graduation Requirements) around student requirements for graduation. Students must meet the following requirements in order to receive a high school diploma:
- Earn 24.0 high school credits.
- All students are required to complete 40 hours of community service prior to graduation.
- Complete a High School and Beyond Plan that covers all four years of high school and one year following graduation.
- Complete a Culminating Project that reflects the student’s story as he or she attended elementary, middle school and high school.
- Meet standard on Required State Assessments.
Office of Superintendent Public Instruction (OSPI):
Public school students in Washington state must fulfill four graduation requirements to earn a certificate of academic achievement (CAA)/high school diploma. One of those requirements is to pass exit exams, or state-approved alternatives, in English language arts (ELA) and math.
Granite Falls High School students must meet the following credit requirements:
|Social Studies (geography, history, civics)||3.0|
|NOTE: completion of Washington State History in Grade 8 or .5 high school credit in Washington State History is required.|
Students can keep track of how many credits they need in each subject area. It is recommended that credits are checked EACH year prior to registration for the next grade. A breakdown of credits needed for upcoming graduating classes can be downloaded here.
Other requirements include: 40 Hours of Community Service, High School and Beyond Plan, Senior Culminating Project, and Certificates of Achievements (pass state assessments in reading, writing, and math). Parents are encouraged to check credit requirements frequently throughout each school year and prior to registration for the next grade.
Participation in Commencement
In order to participate in Granite Falls High School graduation exercise, students must have completed all GFHS and State of Washington diploma requirements. It is understood that the final responsibility for the credit and course requirement for graduation rests with the student and parent. The administration, counselors, and advisors are ready to assist any student or parent at any time regarding their status as far as meeting requirements for graduation.
Seniors, please come to the counseling office and see Porscha Lachapelle about your diploma.
